The Waka Waka Power solar panel lamp is a compact portable solar panel, battery and lamp that can be charged directly using its USB port or through its solar panel. The Waka is the perfect companion when outdoors and without access to grid power. Perfect for camping or hiking, you can pre-charge your Waka at home or charge it in the sun during the day leaving you with a fully charged 2200 mAh battery that can be used to charge your smartphone or other USB devices. It also comes with a fairly bright LED lamp that can last 40+ hours on a single charge depending on the intensity you choose.
When using the solar panel, a full charge will take around 8 hours and when charging via USB, around 4. For me charging the battery with the USB cable took about 3 1/2 hours. The Waka uses 4 green LED lights on the side of the unit that tells you how charged the battery is. 1 light equals 25% while all 4 lights equals 100% charge. After fully charging my smartphone, I still had over 25% charge that was able to run the LED lamp for several hours.
The LED lights are much brighter than I expected. I like the idea that the lamp can be used at 3 different brightness settings so you only have to use up the power you need. The built in stand for the Waka is well thought out and useful in a number of different positions. The Waka can be hung horizontally for an overhead lamp or vertically which is great when you need direct light. This position is also great for charging the unit with the solar panel so it always at the best angle to the sun to receive maximum sunlight. There is also a hole in the stand so that the whole unit can sit securely on almost any plastic bottle.
If your looking for a compact solar panel and charger to bring on your next hiking or camping trip, you can’t really go wrong with the Waka Waka Power. With its sturdy design and well thought out features it’s an excellent gadjet to complement your kit.
